What is an advent -devotional?
You may wonder what an Advent Devotion is and why you should read one. An advent -devotional is meant to prepare your heart to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. They often contain a text text, a story or dedication that corresponds to the daily theme, and maybe a few questions or a Christmas prayer.
Advent devotions for families or children will often also include activities during the Advent season. These devotionals can cover the life of Jesus, a Bible study of the names of Jesus, or prophecies that predict his arrival. All these can help us understand the real miracle of Christmas.
Advent definition
The word ‘Advent’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Adventus’, which means ‘coming’. When we talk about the advent season, we are talking about the time that leads to the arrival of Christmas. This period usually starts four Sundays before Christmas. Some Christians will spend this time in prayer and/or fast and spend extra time thinking about the coming celebration of Christ’s birth. It is a time to ensure that your heart concentrates on Christ and not on the distractions that our culture throws at us.
