I have not always been confident in my life, nor when I first gave my life to Christ. I initially thought that everything will soon come back to my life after I had destroyed my life to Christ in the middle of pregnancy with my daughter.
Life did not suddenly become pain -free, but it had finally compared to the previous 4 years of my life where I aimlessly roamed around. Giving your life to Christ will give you the direction and guidance you need to come to the place of peace that you really need.
However, remember that the peace that you receive from Christ does not eliminate all tests and tribulation in your life, it is here to help you get intact.
Why giving your life to Christ is important for single mothers?
When we accept Christ in our lives, we are created again. There is an amazing spiritual innovation and transformation that takes place internally that changes the way you see life. You will also receive help and support through your journey through God’s Word and the Holy Spirit that starts to live in you.
“This means that everyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life has disappeared; a new life has begun!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
As single mothers, we assume a burden and manage a load in life that was never intended for one person to wear. Jesus came to bring your hope, bring life and take your burdens so that you can be free to be everything He created you.
“Because I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for a disaster to give you a future and a lot.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
Moreover, to take on all our sins and die for them, so that we can have a chance to have eternal life with God in heaven.
“Because this is how God loved the world: He gave his only son, so that everyone who believes will not perish but has eternal life.”
John 3:16 NLT
Jesus should be in your life because He has released us and recovered us from our pain and our predetermined journey to death. Jesus transforms us:
- From death to life
- Forgotten
- From hated to loved one
- From shameful to free
- From sorrow to joy
- From fear and doubt to courage and trust
- From lonely to his family
- From poor to rich in his glory
- From punished to forgiveness
- From pointing to confusion
Jesus is the source for everything we are looking for in life and to improve our situation. We can continue to waste and look everywhere at things and people who continue to live on us empty and disappointed.
Or today we can make the decision to make Jesus Lord of our lives and confess with our mouth that we convert (turning us and never going back) of ancient ways of life and will walk on God’s way.
In the next few sections I will break the specific steps you can take to give your life to Christ and what that journey looks like as a new believer, especially as a single mother.
Giving your life to Christ for single mothers
I don’t want you to think this is a complicated process, because that is not the case. It simply requires, authentic intentionality and a decision not to be led by your environment, emotions, thoughts and manners and to give everything to Jesus.
Here are the fast simple steps below that can be used if it is your first time or if you redesign your life. You can also use these steps if you have a friend who needs support to give their lives to Christ and also take the steps to salvation.
1. You have to make the decision in your heart.
“If you try to hold your life, you lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will make it.”
Luke 9:24 NLT
Before you can do something, you must make the decision that you need a savior. You have to come to the point that the way you live life is no longer what it should be.
For me when I gave my life to Christ, I really got up from sitting on the floor of my bedroom as a teenager and tried to take my own life with a knife in my hand. I called the only person I knew I could trust at the moment, my brother who was a young minister at that time, and he led me through the rescue prayer.
When I came to the end of myself, I could clearly see that the way I lived could not be my life what it should be like. Even when I knew my life again, I knew that I was touching a wall (the end of myself) and knew that I had to commission again for Christ.
You may need support from a family member, friend of faith or a church leader who can help you through the rescue process. However, I want to tell you that this decision is the most important, but the best decision you will ever make in your life.
2. Confess with your mouth conversion of your sins and that Jesus is Lord.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believes in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10: 9 NLT
“Peter replied:“ Each of you must convert from your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift from the Holy Spirit. ‘ Acts of the Apostles 2:38 NLT
This is an essential part of the simple rescue process because you recognize the pain and destruction that your life has been so far. You understand your part in it and explain that you give it all to Jesus and never look back.
You make the explanation of change in your life and that you are no longer wise in your eyes, but that you need a savior to order your steps and to focus your life. Keeping is about to tell yourself of the purity and reality of your heart and leaving it all at the feet of Jesus.
During this part you officially assume the rightful position of a servant and a child to be loved by God. This part really brings the transformative process into action with such a grand action.
3. Believe the redeeming work of Christ on the cross and accept the love that God shows through it.
“He personally wore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is good. Because of his wounds you are healed.”
1 Peter 2:24 NLT“Then Christ will make his house in your heart while trusting him. Your roots will grow into God’s love and keep you strong.”
Ephesians 3:17 NLT
God is such a loving father. He went through an extreme act of love, just so that you and I can be reunited with him when we decide to get home. We can know that everything Jesus did during his life on earth, but it is our conviction that the transforming power of God unlocks that your life can change forever.
You have to believe in your heart that Jesus lived, died and rose again, so that you could have eternal life. You must know in your connoisseur that Jesus is the way, the truth and life. You may have questions at first, but that will only feed your journey to know God more.
Feel overwhelmed by having God’s love and doubts, does not conclude that the saving grace of Jesus did not work. It is actually a sign that a desire is placed in you to search and starve for more understanding and time with God than before.
Your faith and acceptance seal your rescue process. Below I will share an example of the rescue prayer, so that you can really see how this process is done in a simple prayer. Although I split it into this message in a certain way, I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed and completely leave it. Your future depends on this moment.
4. Pray for help and support on this journey with community, holy spirit and protection.
“Turn on your new nature and let it be renewed when you get to know your Creator and as he becomes.”
Colossians 3:10 NLT“God’s way is perfect. All the promises of the Lord show true. He is a shield for everyone looking at him for protection.”
Psalms 18:30 NLT
I encourage new converts/believers to strengthen their new salvation with their first prayer to God and ask for his help on this new journey. Things you can record at the end of this prayer:
- Gratitude for the new trip.
- Help finding a supporting faith community to help you grow as a Christ follower.
- Holy Spirit shows you the parts of your life that must be immediately removed or changed.
- God’s protection against the attacks of the enemy that will result from a decision to follow Christ.
- Guidance about where to start in the Word to know God/Jesus more.
Whatever you are led to add to the end of your rescue process, will start with your prayer life and prayer journey, an essential discipline needed to display this Christian life in every phase.
As a single mothers, prayer is very necessary. We are confronted with so many challenges at work, with our children, society and try to maintain a house and our health. Prayer is that secret weapon that helps us to remain calm and peace in the midst of the storm.
Daily, constant communication with God is vital to our spiritual, physical, mental and emotional well -being as single mothers. There were enough times that I felt that I was being exhausted further. After prayer and deliberately speaking in tongues, I was able to continue and find the second wind, the fresh wind that only God can give.
All in all,
As I said before, giving your life to Christ will be the best decision you make for yourself, but it will also be the best decision you make for your children and future generations. The day I was saved by my brother after suicidal ideas/attempt and on the day I had done my life again after I became pregnant with my daughter were the best days of my life.
You can use the simple prayer that I have placed below or have a familiar church leader in your community to help you by your salvation and leting you start your new life with Christ. Repeat this prayer below:
Father in heaven,
I now pray to you because I need you and I am done with the life of the life I am currently alive. I make the decision to give you my life and never look back. I hear you calling right now and I decide to answer the call.
Lord, I confess that I am a sinner who needs a savior. The decisions I have made in the past and the way I have lived is no longer the life I want.
That’s why I confess with my mouth and I believe in my heart that Jesus is Lord. I believe that God sent Jesus to earth, to save me, by dying for my sins on the cross and raising on the third day so that I can have life again. I accept the sacrifice of Jesus as the basis of my life and God’s love as the motivation for my new journey with Christ. I can’t be saved any other name.
Thank you God for loving me enough to save me and make me new in Christ Jesus. I pray that the Holy Spirit is currently in me and my steps leads. Lord, help me to find a community that will rely on my new journey as a believer and for God’s protection against everything trying to take away this moment. Do you feel like my life and let this decision be a blessing for those who are connected to me, including my children.
In Jesus name, Amen.
This is an exemplary prayer above, but it can be as short or long as you want. God is just happy that you are finally at home where you belong. I am excited that you have made this decision to give your life to Christ. Share with everyone you know the decision you have made, but I would like to hear about it.
