Hello, families,
Our journey with God is the adventure of your life. With this book your family will get a valuable tool for the trip. It is as if you have a flashlight, a harmonica, a camping stove, a Swiss pocket knife, mosquito spray and Uno, and Uno are all packed in one great family adventure package.
While you save God’s Word in song – week after week – you will have so much fun together, but you will also confront the edges of your faith. If we keep God’s Word for us, it forces us to ask ourselves: “Can I really trust him – with everything?” Time and again, God’s Word resonates with certainty: “Yes! He is good. He is faithful. He is here.”
And what an immeasurable joy to travel as a family! As you sing and pray together, you will remember and celebrate the love of God and the gift of Jesus. You prepare your heart for the Holy Spirit to shape you and your family and to shape your glory.
And because of the mysterious power music you have to shoot root in your memory, you and your children will wear a soundtrack of God’s Word for the rest of your life! That is really why this book exists. Through a short and easy daily routine, parents and children have the opportunity to sing, discuss, pray and learn about God’s Word. You can learn these 52 songs and insects all year round and keep them for a lifetime.
I also have to say – you can’t ruin this! You can start in the middle, go around, take three years to get through the whole thing, or only get through the first few weeks. When our children were small, there is a 100 percent chance that we never finished this entire book.
And that is not anyway. The point is, God is real. He loves us and he wants us to walk with him with him. I hope and pray that this book helps.
Grace and peace and music,
Randall Good game
Week 1: Freedom
It is for freedom that Christ has liberated us. Then stand firm and do not let yourself be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5: 1
Day 1
In families there are both privileges and boundaries. God lays boundaries in His Word to keep us safe and to prevent us from being trapped by sin. But we also get all the benefits of being God’s children! We can be happy and generous because Jesus died on the cross before us and God loves us as a loyal father.
Talk about it: What are some privileges in your family?
Pray together: Dear God, thank you that because Jesus died on the cross for us, I have been adopted in your family. Thank you for all the blessings that are accompanied by your child.
Day 2
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Think about it: Sometimes choosing the wrong one looks nice. But in the end it will choose the wrong us. God gives us limits to protect us against poor choices.
Talk about it: What limits do you have in your family? How do they keep you safe?
Pray together: Dear God, Thank you for setting boundaries in the Bible that keep me safe and love sin.
Day 3
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Do together: Go around the table and share something that you like to be in your family. Make a drawing about what you love; Then make a poster or collage of all drawings and place them somewhere where you can often see it.
Pray together: Dear God, Thank you for all the wonderful things about my family. Thank you for being part of your family.
Day 4
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Think about it: Freedom means that we can make our own choices. But all our choices have consequences – either good or bad. God wants us to be free to make good choices that help us lead a beautiful life.
Talk about it: Can you think of a time when a bad choice that you made had a poor consequence?
Pray together: Dear God, Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Thank you for always loving me, even when I am sinful. Help me make good choices so that I can be free and not a slave of sin!
Day 5
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Think about it: By default, we are determined that we are determined to follow God’s ways and instructions. It can be tempting to disobey his word or to do what we want, but getting up firmly means following him.
Talk about it: Can you think of a way that you can stand and obey Jesus?
Pray together: Dear God, thank you that being part of your family means that I have the freedom to make choices that give me joy!
Day 6
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Do together: Find an image with your family for a ‘yoke’. This is a heavy tool farmers that sometimes use animals around the neck to plant crops. If we do not follow God’s ways, hard consequences can be a heavy weight around our neck, so we take with us where we do not want to go.
Pray together: Dear God, sin always makes it worse. I don’t want to wear the heavy weight of sin in my life. Help me to get in the way instead, instead.
Day 7
Sing the Bible! Practice the verse of this week.
Live the Bible! The best way to get to know God – and all his privileges and boundaries – is to read the Bible. When we make the reading of the Bible a normal part of our lives and follow what it says, we can live joyfully as God’s children.
Pray together: Dear God, I want to know you as my loyal father. Help me to learn how you can regularly study your Bible, so that I can know you better.
