The Power of Time Tracking: A Simple Tool for Working Moms to Regain Control

Have you ever had the feeling that there is never enough time in the day? Like your task list continues to grow while you take energy? Or maybe you have noticed that you complain that you never have enough time to work on the things that are really important – personal projects, quality time with your family, or even a moment for ordinary to breathe.

If this sounds familiar, I have a tool that can help. It’s simple, it’s powerful, and it is perhaps the game changer you were looking for: Time tracking.

Why follow time?

You probably already have a general feeling of how your days are going. You know the exercise: work, meals (how many sandwiches did you make today?), Was, groceries, the routine before bedtime and so on. But do you know how much time you are Actually Expenses on these things? Do you know how many hours in your day are spent on things that you feel empty or unfulfilled?

I have worked with customers who – just like you – make assumptions about how much they work, do odd jobs or take care of children. It is easy to fall into the trap to overestimate our productivity or to underestimate how much time certain tasks take. This is where data comes in.

The AHA -moment: realize where your time is going

When I first started following my steps a few years ago, I was shocked by the results. I thought I was an average of 5,000-6,000 steps a day, but when I checked the data, I heard that I hardly got 2,000 steps a day! No wonder I felt slow! Armed with this insight, I made a conscious attempt to walk more, and after months and months of intentional effort I now have an average of about 8,000 steps a day. But this shift would not have happened without following how much I actually walked.

Time Tracking works in the same way – it gives you the hard facts about where your time is really going. You can discover that your day is filled with time -consuming tasks that do not match your true priorities. Or maybe you may find bags of time that you never knew existed. The beauty is that once you have the data, you can act on top.

A simple approach to following time

When I worked in the American business community, I followed my time, even if it was not required. It was not a glamorous task – to trace the 15 minutes in an awkwardly old system – but it helped me to understand exactly where my energy was going. And it gave me data to take my leadership team to help them better understand what and not realistic in terms of expectations. As a working mother, when I noticed myself overwhelmed with an ever -growing task list, I also started to follow my time outside of my work. I wanted to understand if I was really as busy as I felt or if I was just inefficient.

Now, as a coach and a full -time -working mother of three, I still use time tracking tools to check in myself and my assumptions. I personally use a tool called LinkWhich is easy to use and even has a free version that gives you everything you need. Whether it is during working hours, in the morning before the children wake up, or during the weekend, I will follow my time to see where I really invest my energy. It is a great way to discover areas where I might spend time on things that are not tailored to my goals.

Follow the real benefits of time

What has been most enlightening for both me and my customers are the “AHA” moments that arise from assessing our time logs. Here are a few real examples of what I have seen:

  • Client #1 Thought she worked 60+ hours a week. She was a resent about how much time she spent at her desk. But after following the time, she was shocked when she found out that it was closer to 45 hours. It was a big moment for her because it meant that she could re -assess how she spent her time, both at work and beyond.

  • Client #2 Discovered that following the time helped her not to be recorded. Just the logging of what she worked on, felt her more motivated to stay focused and to stay productive when she had previously reached her phone or searched the internet brainlessly instead of doing her priority projects.

  • Client #3 Discovered that she wasted timelessly in the evening. Once she realized this, she was able to reclaim part of that time for more intentional activities such as reading or spending Quality Time with her husband.

In all these examples it was time to keep the patterns that these customers were not aware of. Time Tracking forces you to confront the reality of how your day unfolds, and it often arouses ideas to make meaningful changes.

How to start tracking

When you are ready to give it a try, it is easy to get started:

  1. Choose a tool: Download a free time -tracking -app like Link Or just use a notebook if it feels easier. I only recommend starting with something digital, because so many of us always have our phones that we have access to when we are on the road. But if you are used to taking a notebook or something like that, that is also a great way to go.

  2. Follow your time: Don’t wait for the perfect time to start. You can now start tracing even if you are in the middle of your day. When you catch yourself on changing tasks, just go on the timer and stop when you’re done. Or note if you follow on paper.

  3. Stay consistent: Don’t worry about being perfect. The goal is to get a realistic snapshot of your day. The more consistent you follow, the more insight you get.

  4. View the data: View the patterns after a week or two. Where do you spend your time? Where can you make adjustments to free time for the things that are most important to you?

Small changes = big impact

After you have followed your time and have the data, it is time to make changes. The goal is not necessarily to find extra hours at the day (although that is always possible!), But to make your days feel more manageable and deliberately.

Perhaps it shifts a few tasks to make your evenings less chaotic or to switch off time in your morning to work on a personal project. Small changes like these may not give you extra o’clock From free time, but they can make a huge difference in how you feel your day.

Ready to take control of your time?

Following time is the first step to get more clarity and control over your days. It is a powerful tool for everyone, but especially for busy mothers who often feel that there is never enough time for themselves. It is about understanding where your time really goes and make changes to coordinate your time with your values and priorities.

When you are ready to dive deeper and get personalized feedback about your time, Go on the waiting list For my group coaching program for working mothers, Beyond balance. Your first assignment is to follow a week, so that I can give you direct feedback.

Time Tracking has been a game changer for me and it has had the same impact on many of my customers. It’s not about perfection – it’s about consciousness, understanding and deliberate changes that support your goals.
