I can only imagine what farmers go through every season. Toil and plants, and then wait. And they enjoy it. This is why I remind myself of it, singing loudly in my head, there is beauty and freedom in it not yet.
The waiting season
To be honest, the waiting season looks different for everyone. Here are a few things that you might wait:
- Jesus returns.
- A promotion at work.
- “The one” to go with.
- Your circumstances to change.
- The day your child comes over the rebellious phase.
- Your friend to be there like they ever were.
- The co-parenting relationship becomes less stressful.
- The company that you have tirelessly worked on to rise.
Things can be painful if you leave them for everything you are waiting for.
The world’s view of waiting
Yes, I’m going to talk about the image of the world, because we can’t close an eye for the external signals and influences that seep into how we experience this season in our lives. The world regards the waiting of passive, playing small, giving up and being lazy. The list can continue fairly.
And the truth is, I believed that every lie that was fed in print, my ‘overproductive productivity’ and the fear that I did not do enough. Don’t get me wrong now, there is a season for action, and some people say they wait if they are actually afraid.
God’s opinion
That is not the case here. The waiting season is all about working. It is about building, turning the ground, preparing and cherishing what God meant to wait to be.
Unlike the world, waiting for God about building your inner man is not the outer circumstance. It’s about your heart and character, not your presentation.
God sees waiting as wise, operating in good judgment and a sign of strength in you. Because of his perception you will start to see the beauty of the waiting season.
I have been in a waiting season for a long time. Five years to be precise!
I have experienced all the phases that I know you know. Can I be honest with you?
I was crying in my bed to why nothing worked for me. Everyone is blessed and I have to fight constantly to get ahead. Why can I have my for a long time happy? When will this single mother trip become easier? You said you are with me, so why do I still feel lonely? Why does it seem like I never have enough money to do the things I want to do? I don’t want to work for another employer. I need this company to train!
In all that confused thinking, I immediately led myself in a dysfunctional waiting season – a waiting season, similar to the Israelites, directly in the wilderness. Instead of seeing the opportunities of my questions to better understand who God is, his ways and what he wanted to do in the waiting season. When it could have taken 1, I realized what God wanted me to do five years later. He said that I had to discipline myself and started the habits that kept me in Cycli for years, to replace those with new ones.
And I laughed. Not because I am rude, but because God spoke these five years ago.
Our role in this matter
Sometimes it is not God who keeps us in a waiting season; It is our stubbornness to seek him early and act obediently. If we don’t do that, we will extend the seasons, leave ourselves without options and lead a life of despair. We must now break from this life.
And if you are something like me, you are still in your waiting season. You are probably at the point where you are ready to play your season and to move your season for the better. To be honest, waiting seasons never easy, but they don’t have to be complicated either. I want to share a group of writings with you who helped me to wait as God defined. Whether you are in a season or not, you would like to make a bookmark of these verses for when it comes back.
