How to choose your One Word
To me this is the most exciting part of choosing one word to navigate my world. It’s not that difficult. However this is when you have to be intentional and decide you are all “IN” for this idea of choosing One Word for your year.
Let’s get started choosing your word:
1. Unplug – Set aside alone time with zero distractions
I know as moms thats nearly impossible. However this might mean choosing one morning that you will get up an hour earlier or stay up later. Or asking your husband or others to watch your kids so you can head to a coffee shop or a space where you can place focus on choosing your one word.
Be sure to turn off all distractions so that you can focus.
2. Reflect – Now that you have some alone time with out distractions. Take a few minutes to reflect on your life. You can use these questions to get your brain thinking and reflecting on the past, present and future
– What do I want my life to be like this year
– What characteristics would I like to have
– What areas of my life would I like to change or be challenged in
– What are your passions
Think about the various areas of your life – Personal, family , work, ministry volunteering etc.
Create a list of areas you want to work on, challenge yourself, change, new habits you want to create, things to accomplish , personal, family, business goals.
3. Now look at your answers and see if there is a pattern or similarities or even a theme.
4. Next list out words that reflect the pattern, similarity or theme. words that would inspire you, challenge you , change you.
Do you want your one word to be one that inspires action or a focus word or one that is more descriptive?
