Do you have trouble finding satisfaction in your house? I will be honest – sometimes it feels like everyone is renovating their dream homes, except for me. Quick scrolling through social media, and suddenly it feels like you are the only one who misses out. Is it easy to get caught up in looking at home renovations that do not like a good before and after? But if we are not careful, what starts when inspiration becomes quickly compared. And that, my friend, can become a breeding ground for dissatisfaction.
Moving does not always solve this problem. Sometimes it is not even an option. A larger budget or the acquisition of more things will not solve it either. No, this is a matter of the heart. Finding satisfaction with our houses, regardless of our means, requires a shift in mindset. And you can follow that perspective wherever you go, regardless of where you mention at home or in what season of life you are. Here are a few things I do to help me keep the space I am in.
First, I ask myself these questions:
What am I allowed to influence myself? Are the bills that I follow inspiring and encouraging, or are they planting seeds of dissatisfaction? How do I feel on social media after spending time? If the answer leans to dissatisfaction, I take a break. Don’t let yourself be trapped to think that everyone can afford great renovations, while you can’t. Get away from the screen and tackle a simple task – such as storing that pile of laundry room. It reduces visual mess and blesses your family more than you know (I remind myself too!).
Clean, clean and clean even more!
Every time I find myself in a malaise over my house, I realize that I have to change the story in my head. It is easy to concentrate on the things that I don’t like when my house is messy or needs a deep beauty. But it’s funny how to clean up my perspective can shift. The way we worry about our houses influences how we feel in them. Every time I caught myself in my space, a quick strength cleaning session fills my heart with gratitude for what I have. Moreover, it is free– And nothing goes beyond the feeling of a freshly cleaned house.
Return, renew and shop your house
Nothing goes beyond the rearrangement of good furniture to raise your love for your space. Sometimes the only thing that is needed is a simple switch-eroo night cabinets, play musical seats or reconsider an entire room layout. If moving furniture is not an option, try to exchange curtains or pillows. Sometimes, even just to exchange your smaller decor, your life not only breathes in your space, but also your heart. Take a moment to walk around your house and look for pieces that you can ‘shop’ to change things.
It can also be time to reconsider your storage systems. For years we held a bank at our front door where our toddlers were while we tied their shoes, with crates underneath for storage. But as our children grew, they no longer needed help with their shoes – they needed easy access to their hats and gloves, which were uncomfortably stored on a top shelf in a cupboard. So I exchanged the couch for a small sideboard and filled the drawers with their hats and gloves. Now they can achieve what they need without my help.
Apply one small change at the same time.
When I struggle with satisfaction, I think that returning a little love in my house helps. Sometimes the only thing needed is a small change. Never underestimate the power of a new paint layer – it can transform a room a day. Or maybe it renews a piece of furniture or new works of art for your walls. When the budget is tight, I even painted Lam’s instead of buying new ones. It is of course that our feelings about our houses grow old if we have not spent time taking care of them. And I’m not just talking about chores – I mean taking care of the kind of where we work with our hands, invest our hearts and pour love into our spaces. Take a small do -the -self -project or creative craft. When we feed our houses, they have a way to cherish us back.
Maybe you can’t afford a make -over from full room, but when was the last time you gave your trim a fresh layer of paint? I do this every few years and I am always surprised at how it makes my house feel brand new again.
Throw the mess away!
If you are stuck to your home decor, try to lift. This always helps me if I don’t like a space. Go through loading and baking and decide to keep something and what you have to let go. If you have a place where Rommel accumulates – such as the dreaded “drop zone” – a creative storage solution. One of my favorite tricks is collecting all the mess in a box and placing it on the table. Then I go through it all and make sure that everything is stored or tackled properly. You can even do this for every child if they tend to leave things around.
Whether your living room is covered with playgroup or your dream house make -over is not yet in the budget, there are things you can do today to cultivate satisfaction with the space you have.
